General Notes

Note

Note on back reads De Ti Guds Bud One hundred years agao (early 1900's) this print of the ten Commandments and the The Lord's Prayer was designed and reproduced. It was given as a premium to Norwegian immigrants who subscribed to a Norwegian language newspaper printed in Decorah, Iowa and called the Decorah Posten. The print was framed and displayed prominently in their homes. The decorative artistic style and delicate colors were typical of the Nineteenth Century graphic arts. The subject matter reminded the people of the basic tenets of their faith, the pictorial style aided them in remembering their beliefs, and the language tied them to their familiar roots in a new and unfamiliar land.
