This family history entry contains copies of original photographs of Phillip and Dorothea (Rediske) Bohnsack and their children. Phillip was a son of John and Maria (Heineke) Bohnsack, pioneers of Traill County. Philip was born on 23 June 1864 in Wisconsin and came with his parents to Traill County in 1879.
This file also contains a two-page document written by Phillip's daughter, Marie Bohnsack, on her parent's life and a listing of their 11 children, of which 9 lived to adulthood. This document was Chapter 7 in a Bohnsack family history compiled and written by Dorothy (Bohnsack) Odlaug, a granddaughter of Charles Bohnsack.
On 26 January 1886, Phillip Bohnsack married Dorothea Rediske of Traill County. They had nine children that survived to adulthood (family photo), including five girls: Ruth Bohnsack, Elsa Bohnsack, Nora Bohnsack, Laura Bohnsack (Mrs. Rev. Henry Mackensen) and Marie Bohnsack; and four boys: George Bohnsack, John Charles (J.C.) Bohnsack, Erwin Bohnsack and Walter (Walt) Bohnsack (see photos with their father Phillip)
Dorothea died on 17 December 1913. She was survived by a brother Fred Rediske (see Catalogit photographs entry 2023-353.1), and by a sister, Katherine Rediske (Mrs. Louis Rosenau; see Catalogit photographs entry 2023-352.1).
Phillip and Dorothea's second child, Alfred Bohnsack, who was born in 1889 died at the age of two-and-a-half (photo).
Phillip Bohnsack served two terms in the ND State Legislature in 1927 & 1929. He lived on his Bohnsack Township farm in Section 14 until his death, age 75, on 21 April 1940.
