Description

This family history folder contains pages describing how Thore and Kari (Larsdatter) Halvorson came to America in 1872 and first settled in Iowa. In 1879, they came with their young family by wagon to establish a claim to a farmstead on land that became Bloomfield Township in Traill County, Dakota Territory. They first lived in a sod shanty, then a log cabin and finally a frame house on their farmstead (photo, below). This farmstead became a century farm because Thore passed the farm to his son, Theo Halvorson, who then passed it on to his son Kenneth Halvorson. This historic homestead is now owned by Tim Kozojed of Hillsboro.
