As described in his obituary, Manick Skogen was born on 20 September 1974 on a farm near what became Hillsboro, ND. His parents, Fredrick and Nikolena (Gulbrandson) Skogen were one of the earliest pioneers of Traill County, and owned land on what is now the Hillsboro Golf Course (see pages on Nikolina written by La Verne Skogen). Manick Skogen married Anna Hoff on 13 March 1913. They farmed near Peerless Montana until 1935, and then returned to Hillsboro. They had three children. Their daughter, Violet was born on 26 April 1915 in Scobey, Montana, as described in a questionnaire she completed for the Traill County Historical Society. Violet lived to the age of 100, passing away on 7 October 2015 in Hillsboro. Manick and Anna's first son, Elmer Skogen was born on 15 August 1918 in Scobey, MT. He lived to the age of 90, passing away on 21 June 2009 in Minot, ND. Manick and Anna's second son, Vernon Skogen was born on 6 March 1924 in Hillsboro, ND. Vernon married my Aunt Dorothy Ludwig, on 17 June 1950 in Minnesota. Vernon and Dorothy had four sons, Rick, David, Paul and Mark Skogen, and a daughter, Nancy Jo Skogen. Vernon died on 31 October 2015, age 91, in Brainerd, MN. The Dorothy (Ludwig) and Vernon Skogen family is described on pages 413 to 427 in the book titled "A Family History for Hannah [Swenson] and John E.
