In July 1887, Elm River School No. 1 Teacher Ducan Fisher reported attendances and studies pursued for 28 students, including: Annie Anderson, Nellie Anderson, Wm. Anderson, Abel Armstrong, Mary Beggarman, Jas. Brooks, Jennie Brooks, Peter Brooks, Albert Grady, Chas. Grady, George Grady, Frank Johnson, Maggie Johnson, May MacCarthy, Jas. Martindale, John Martindale, Maggie Martindale, Annie McAndrew, George McAndrew, Maggie McAndrew, Victoria Saisbury, Sarah Stacy, Anna Watson, Sarah Watson, Wm. Watson, Chas Weller, Peter Weller, and Mary Young.
Elm River School No. 1 was located near Quincy in the NW Qtr. of Sect 26 (see 1900 map, below). In 1887, Quincy was important port on the Red River and later was abandoned when the Great Northern Railroad line overtook shipping in the Rid River Valley.Acquisition
