Context

A church was built after Evangelical Immanuel Lutheran was founded in 1875 by pioneering families of German descent farming east of what became the city of Hillsboro in 1881. The first church was constructed in the 1880s on land donated by Henry Groehnke in Section 34 of Eldorado Township, Traill County, about three miles east of Hillsboro, ND. In 1947, the Immanuel Lutheran congregation disbanded and joined the St. John Lutheran congregation in Hillsboro. The Immanual Lutheran Church building is no longer standing but the adjoining cemetery continues to be maintained.
