This family history folder contains information on the life of Joseph 'Joe' Amb and Olina (Hovet) Amb.
Joe Amb was born on 16 June 1905, the youngest of 13 children born to Roseville Township pioneers Carl and Caroline (Renden) Amb (family photo, below; also see TCHS Catalogit family history entry 2024.594.1). Joe was raised along with his older siblings on the family farm located in Section 34 in Roseville Township (1900 map, below). Joe attended Roseville School No. 7 [later named School No. 2] located in the SW Qtr. of Sect. 28. Joe went on to graduate from Portland High School with the Class of 1926 (photo, below). In 1918(?), Joe was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church (photo), which was located nearby in Roseville Township.
Olina (Hovet) Amb was born on 1 April 1900 the fourth of ten children born to Thor O. and Isabel (Jorgensdr.) Hovet, pioneers of Stavanger Township in Traill County (see TCHS Catalogit family history entry 2024.516.1). Olina was raised on the family farm and attended a rural Stavanger Township school. Olina was confirmed in about 1913 in the Hylstad (Hyllestad) Evangelical Church located in Stavanger Township (photo, below).
On 14 January 1933, Olina Hovet married Joseph Amb in Buxton, Traill County, ND (wedding photo, left). As shown in a 1952 Traill County Plat Book (below), Joe and Olina farmed in the west-half of Section 34 in Roseville Township on the land that included the land homesteaded by his father Carl Amb. Interestingly, Olina Hovet's older sister Engeborg (Hovet) Koppang married Joe Amb's older brother Theadore 'Ted' Amb.
Joe and Olina Amb had three children including a son, Carl Amb, and two daughters, Alice Amb (Mrs. Melvin Zahnow) and Irene Amb (Mrs. David Hoff).
Joe and Olina Amb were active in the communities of Roseville Township and the town of Portland, ND, [obit info]. Joe served on the Traill County ASCS board for 15 years.
Joseph Amb lived to the age of 74, passing away on 3 January 1980. Olina (Hovet) Amb lived to the grand age of 98, passing away on 5 December 1998. Joe and Olina were interred at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery located about 2 miles NE of their farmstead.Location
