This family history folder contains two books on Lars and Joran (Arnesdatter) Evenson Moen, early pioneers of Norway Township in Traill County, Dakota Territory. The first book published in 1958 describes the family's history back to Norway and settlement in Amerika along the Goose River in Traill County, and the establishment of the AAL and Aurdal churches by early Norwegian settlers. The 1958 book also includes numerous family photographs and genealogy trees for multiple generations beginning with Lar's parents, Eivind Larson Solbrekken and Gjertrud Halvorsdatter. The second Book published in 1981 updates these trees and adds more family photos.
Lars Evenson Moen was born in Norway on 22 July 1825. In 1954, Lars married Ingri (Mikkelsdatter) Oien in Norway. They had three children: Even, Gjertrud and Ingeri. When Ingeri was one week old, her mother, Ingri, died. In 1860, Lars then married Joran Arnesdatter in Norway (photo), where they had three children: Joran, Marit and Arne.
In 1867, Lars and Joran (Arnesdatter) Evenson Moen and their six children (family photo) came to America and first settled in Freeborn County, Minnesota. In 1871, they travelled north by oxen cart to settle Traill County, Dakota Territory. Lars claimed land in Norway Township, and established a homestead on 74 acres in the West half of the NW Quarter in Section 20 (see 1892 Atlas map). Lars Evenson Moen (L. E. Moen) also had 160 acres of land in Section 19.
Lars Evenson Moen passed away in 1906, age 81, and Joran (Arnesdatter) Moen passed away in 1919.Acquisition
