This family history folder includes two items from page 24 in the book "Traill County History, Vol. I. A family photograph of John M. and Ragnild (Braaten) Amb, and 4 of their 7 children, was included on page 24. A brief family history of John M. and Ragnild (Braaten) Amb was also included on page 24 (below). John Mikkelson Amb was born on 25 June 1849 to parents Mikkel and Kjerstie (Dompedal) Amb of Ringsaker, Hedmark County, Norway. In 1872, John M. Amb came to Traill County and homesteaded along the Goose River in Roseville North Township (later Viking Township). In 1882, he married Ragnild Braaten of rural Portland, Dakota Territory. John and Ragnild Amb had seven children (photo with 4 children, left). As noted in their family history, John M. Amb passed away at the age of only 43 in 1893, and that by this time his estate included 158.4 acres in the N-half of Section 20, 240 acres in the E-half of Section 17, and 148.8 acres in the S-half of Section 18 (see 1900 plat map, below). Their children would have attended Township School No. 2 located in the S-half of Section 8 (1900 map). Ragnild (Braaten) Amb continued to reside on the home farm. A new house was built in 1897. Ragnild (Braaten) Amb passed away in April 1913.
