After training at Camp Claiborne, Sgt. Omer Rudrud served in the US Army 164th infantry. He was a patrol leader in battles with the Japanese on Guadalcanal in the South Pacific, and contracted Malaria and treated in hospitals back home in the USA. After WWII, Omer Rudrud was discharged from the US Army and was employed in San Diego, CA, where he married Marion Holman on 20 October 1945, and they made their home in San Diego.
After training at Camp Claiborne, Lt. Carl Vettel also served in the US Army, but unfortunately was killed in action in the Pacific Theatre apparently while fighting on Guadalcanal, as reported in the 11 December 1921 Hillsboro Banner.Cataloged By
