Stina Halvorson was born in June 1866 to parents Ole and Engeborg (Rognstad) Halvorson in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin. At age 21, Stina Halvorson came to Traill County in 1887. Stina Halvorson, age 35, married Ole K. Hovet on 26 December 1902 in Grand Forks, ND, with a postal address of Buxton, ND. By 1910, Ole K. and Stina (Halvorson) Hovet had moved to the City of Hillsboro with three children, Kenneth, Irvin, and Thelma. Irvin and Thelma, who were born in Hillsboro. Ole Knutson Hovet passed away in January 1917, but no obituary or death record has been found for Ole. Stina (Halvorson) Hovet lived for over 40 years after her husband Ole passed away, residing on Fifth St. in Hillsboro with her three children. Stina (Halvorson) Hovet passed away on 9 May 1958 in Montgomery County, Alabama, and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa, IA, where her son Irvin resided. For more information on the life of Stina Halvorson Hovet, see Catalogit family history entry 2024.499.1. As a young woman in her 20s, Stina Halvorson had calling cards produced with floral designs, as shown at left. Stina also had calling cards with her name beneath a flap with a floral design (see below). Stina also collected calling and name cards from family, friends, and special events, which were in the Hovet Collection donated to the Traill County Historical Society. A special event was an invitation to a Valentines party for Stina, age 32, and her brother Mathias O. Halvorson, 35 (see below), hosted by "Madame's McDonald and Grassick", as shown on the back of the invitation (see below) and as reported on page 4 in the Hillsboro Banner on 17 February 1899. Name cards for Stina and her three children, Kenneth, Irvin and Thelma, from an event that featured Revelations 2:10 were in the Hovet Collection (see below).
