Hazel Howard taught in elementary schools in Traill County for 39 years (see obituary, below), including rural schools in West Bohnsack (Greenfield) Township, Norway Township, and Eldorado Township, at Caledonia Consolidated, and then 33 years at Hillsboro Elementary. Hazel retired in 1966.
Hazel Howard was born in 1897 in Wisconsin, the only child of Lewis and Mattie (Moen) Howard. She came with her parents to Hillsboro in Traill County with her parents in the early 1900s. Hazel passed away, age 87, on 30 October 1985 (see obituary, below), and was interred at the Riverside Cemetery by Hillsboro.
A scholarship in her name was established to assist Hillsboro High School graduates obtain University degrees in elementary education (see 24 Feb. 1986 Hillsboro Banner article, below).Acquisition
