This folder contains numerous documents, photos, and newspaper clippings on the life of Col. Carl Ben Eielson, famed pilot and pioneer Arctic explorer from Hatton, Traill County, ND. His magnificent boyhood home is now the Hatton-Eielson Museum, which has numerous items from Ben Eielson's life. Ben died in a plane crash in the Bering Straits while on a rescue mission for the stranded ship Nanuk. HIs first mission was successful, rescuing six passengers a a cargo of furs, but tragically his second mission to the Nanuk ended in a fatal crash in icy and foggy conditions. The State Historical Society of North Dakota in Bismarck has archived many photographs, memorabilia and published documents of Ben's and written about Ben, which were acquired from Ben's sister, Elma (Mrs. Elmer Osking).
