Description

This Boeddeker family history folder contains documents and photographs compiled by family historian, Carol (Lillefloren) Boeddeker (see obituary photo), who married Wilfred (Willie) Boeddeker of Hillsboro. Carol first began gathering family history data in 1959 as a young woman (see photo). As noted by Carol (see below), it took many years to gather all the genealogical information using letters, personal interviews and much help from cousins, and then almost losing it all in a house fire. In the end (about 2003), Carol stopped researching and writing her three family history documents that were broadly centered on her grandmother, Annie Harriet Jalbert (Mrs. John Weller Jr.). These three documents are described in a Jalbert Family History (TCHS Catalogit entry 2026.3.1) and are available for study at the TCHS Plummer House Museum in Hillsboro, ND. As described briefly in a "Personal History" document (below), Willie and Carol farmed by Hillsboro after they married in 1952. Wilfred John (Willie) Boeddeker was born on 21 December 1929 in Halstad, MN, to parents Henry A. and Florence Cecilia (Lauber-sheimer) Boeddeker, who farmed in Herberg Township in Traill County, ND [1930, 1940 & 1950 US Census data]. In 1949 while Carol Lillefloren was on vacation from California visiting her aunt Pearl (Weller) Thompson in Hillsboro (see Personal History), Carol, age 15, going on 16, first met Willie Boeddeker. Then Willie joined the US Marines in 1951 and served for two years, and then Willie served in the North Dakota National Guard in Hillsboro from 1953 to 1962. While with the Marines in California in January 1952, Carol met Willie again, and Carol Raye Lillefloren and Wilfred John Boeddeker first married by a Justice of the Peace on 31 May 1952 in Los Angeles [CA Marriage Index]. They married again on 25 June 1952 at Ascension Catholic Church in Los Angeles, which is where she was also baptized in 1952. Carol Lillefloren was born on 26 October 1933 in Fargo to parents Gerhard and Louise Caroline (Weller) Lillefloren (see Ancestor chart). As noted above, Carol's maternal grandparents were John Jr. and Annie Harriet (Jalbert) Weller, which led to Carol's comprehensive Jalbert family research and writing. When Willie returned from serving in Korea in June 1953, Willie and Carol moved to farm in Traill County. They raised four sons on their Traill County farm, including Ronald, Rory, Ryan and Randall Boeddeker (photo). From information on pages 11 to 12 of the first of three Jalbert family history documents compiled by Carol (see TCHS Catalogit entry 2026.3.1), we know the following: Ronald G. Boeddeker was born on 4 November 1954 in Hillsboro and was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Ronald was raised on the family farm in Traill County until his family moved to Los Angeles in 1963, and then to a dairy farm by Ava, Missouri, in 1975. On 2 June 1979, Ronald Boeddeker married Arlene E. Homeister in Ava, MO. Arlene was born on 26 June 1958 in Waverly, IA. Ronald and Arlene had three children in Missouri, Regina (b. 6 Nov. 1979 in Mansfield), Rex (b. 6 Nov. 1984 in Springfield) and Rachelle (b. 17 Jan. 1987 in Springfield). Rory D. Boeddeker was born on 8 May 1956 in Hillsboro and was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Rory was first raised on the family farm in Traill County, but then in Los Angeles after his family moved to LA in 1963. On 21 June 1975, Rory Boeddeker married Jeannette M. Gallagher in Norco, CA. Jeannette was born on 19 June 1956 in Vallejo, CA. Rory and Jeannette had two children while living in southern California: Nicholas (b. 12 Nov. 1977 in San Bernardino) and Lindsay (b. 5 Jul. 1979 in Riverside). Rory and Jeannette divorced in 1992. Ryan S. Boeddeker was born on 5 May 1957 in Hillsboro and was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. As his older brothers, Ryan was first raised on the family farm in Traill County, and then in Los Angeles when his family moved there in 1963. On 8 November 1981, Rayn married Melva D. Monson in Las Vegas, NV. Melva was born on 11 March 1958 in Bozeman, MT. Ryan and Melva had three children in southern California: Nakomi R. (b.6 Jul. 1982 in Riverside), Shamika D. (b. 28 Jun. 1985 in Loma Linda), and Camille G. (b. 9 Jun. 1987 in Riverside). Randal M. Boeddeker was born on 27 July 1959 in Fargo, and was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro. As his brothers, Randal was first raised on the family farm in Traill County, and then in Los Angeles starting in 1963. Randal moved with his parents, and brother Ronald, to a dairy farm in Missouri. On 1 November 1977, Randal married Pamela Jean Dugan in Seymour, MO. Pamela was born on 3 November 1955. Randal and Pamela divorced in 1981, and Randal partnered with Fay Hall, and they had two children in Springfield, MO: Miranda S Hall (b. 23 Mar. 1982) and Randal M. Hall (b. 20 May 1983). Willie and Carol (Lillefloren) Boeddeker operated their dairy farm 10 miles west of Ava, MO, together from 1975 until suddenly Willie died, age 61, of a massive coronary in the dairy barn on 29 December 1990 [see obituary]. After Willie's passing, Carol operated the dairy farm until October 1991 but then sold the operation while keeping 19 acres around the homestead [see Personal history]. In June of 1991, Carol had attended a high School reunion in Los Angels and met a former boyfriend, Duward 'Duke' Genet, and they married in November 1992. Duke and Carol resided on the Boeddeker farm west of Ava. Carol kept busy with grandchildren and also writing articles for the Douglas County Herald. Upon retiring in October 1998, she fully dedicated herself to genealogical research and writing on her Jalbert ancestry. Carol (Lillefloren) Boeddeker-Genet lived to the age of 85, passing away at the home of her son on 30 June 2019 [see obituary]. After services at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Ava, Carol was cremated and interred next to her first husband, Willie Boeddeker, in the Ava Cemetery [see monument photo].
