Description

This family history entry briefly describes the lives of Ole and Inger (Tveit) Buer (photo), who had seven children (listed on page 67 in Buxton Centennial (1880-1980) book. Ole Buer was born on 29 January 1861 in Hjelsa, Stavanger, Norway. As a young man at age 23, Ole came to America (in 1884?) but after about three years returned to Norway and married Inger Tveit on 25 February 1882? (according to Ole's obituary, but in 1886 in other information). Inger Tveit was born on 14 February 1863 in Erfjord, Norway, and at age 23, married Ole Buer in 1886 in Norway (see obituary). In the same year they married, Ole and Inger (Tveit) Buer left Norway and settled and farmed in the Buxton area of Traill County. Their 160-acre was in the NE Qtr. of Sect. 21 in Stavanger Township (see 1892 Atlas map). They had ten children, of which three died in infancy. Their seven surviving children (see photo and page 67 in Buxton Centennial book) included one son, Olai Buer, and six daughters: Amelia Buer (Mrs. Peder Knudsvig), Jessie Buer (Mrs. Gilbert Hagelie), Maline Buer (Mrs. Ole Knudsvig), Tillie Buer (Mrs. Ludvig Quanrud), Nora Buer (Mrs. Bennie Hagelie), and Ella Buer (Mrs. Elmer Soderberg). Ole and Inger (Tveit) Buer celebrated their 50th anniversary in June 1936 (m. in 1886; see Hillsboro Banner news, 26 Jun. 1936). According to the news item, 110 people attended an outdoor dinner held at the Buer farm, and all seven children gave talks in honor of their parents. Ole Buer lived to the age of 77, passing away after a short illness on 21 March 1938 (see death certificate). Funeral services were held on 24 March at the Nye Stavanger Church (see obituary), and Ole was interred at the East Immanuel cemetery by Buxton (see grave site monument). Inger (Tveit) Buer died on 3 July 1946 (see death Certif.). Inger lived to the age of 83 and died at the home of her daughter, Amelia (Mrs. Peder Knudsvig) (see obituary). Funeral services were held at the Nye Stavanger Church, followed by burial next to Ole at the East Immanuel cemetery by Buxton (see grave site monument).
