Signe received it for Christmas in the year 1864. It was given to her by Andreas Feragen who taught at Holts Seminary in Twedestand, Norway. Signe was born on the 18th of October in the year of 1862 at Fresday, Telemarken, Norway. Signe's father died in the 1868. In 1872 her mother and brothers, the oldest being only 15 years old, came to America on the sailing ship the Ruken. During the passage, which took six weeks, Signe died of Scarlett fever.
