This file has photocopies of typed information about George E. Weston obtained from the Historical Data Project WPA, Bismarck, ND, and from information about Caledonia Township in the "Pioneer" book of the Old Settlers' Association. Serving the Hudson Bay Company, George Weston visited the mouth of the Goose River on the Red River in 1869 and returned in 1870 to stake a homestead claim in Section 14 near what later became the village of Caledonia. However, George was more of an adventurer than farmer and in 1872 joined a survey team for the Northern Pacific Railroad and in 1873 joined a surveying party for what became Yellowstone National Park. He eventually settled in Caledonia, Married Elizabeth McDonald in 1881, operated grain buying and shipping businesses, and after Traill County was formed in 1875, was the first register of deeds and was county clerk.Cataloged By
