Johannes (John) Rindahl was an early settler in Sections 2 and 3 in Norman Township in Traill County, DT (see portion of plat map from the 1892 Traill and Steele Counties Atlas).
From an article in the 29 July 1892 Hillsboro Banner, we know that John Rindahl served as Traill County Commissioner, representing District 5 (Clifford/Galesburg).
From GENi bio info (updated 10 June 2023 by Lawrence Walton IV), we know that Johannes was born on 4 June 1850 in Oyer, Oppland, Norway, to parents Ole Jorgensen and Elizabeth (Tronsdatter) Rindahl.
Based on the 1885 Dakota Territory Census for Roseville Township (later Norman Township), Johannes (John) Rindahl and wife Maria farmed and had five children listed with them including Olaf Rindahl (age 11), Sonia Rindahl (age 9), Lina Rindahl (age 7), Christine Rindahl (age 3), and Theresa (age 3 months).
Based on the 1900 US Census for Norman Township in Traill County, ND, John Rindahl, age 50, was first married to Maria Tronsdatter, age 43, and they had five children: Christine Rindahl (b. May 1883), Theresa Rindahl (b. 1884), Amanda Rindahl (b. Nov. 1887), John M. Rindahl (b. Aug 1890) and Olaf Rindahl (b. May 1894).
Based on the 1910 US Census, John Rindahl, age 59, continued to farm in Norman Township, but now his wife was listed as Karen (Christenson) Rindahl, age 30. No children are listed with John and Karen in this 1910 census record. From a Clifford News item in the 16 March 1917 Hillsboro Banner, we know that Mr. and Mrs. John Rindahl moved to a farm located about one-and-a-half miles north of Clifford in the NW Qtr. of Sect. 22.
Based on the 1920 US Census, John Rindahl, age 69, and wife Karen, age 39, had moved to a farm in Alexander Township in McKenzie County, ND. John and Karen Rindahl are now listed with five children: John Oliver Rindahl (age 9), Rolf Alfred Rindahl (age 5), Kenneth Julius Rindahl (age 3), Arthur A. Rindahl (age 2) and Inez K. Rindahl (age 7 months).
A ND Death Certificate documents that John Rindahl passed away on 28 November 1925 in McKenzie County, ND, and was interred in the Alexander Cemetery.Acquisition
