Description

This family history folder contains documents and photographs on the lives of Harry and Mathilda (Aslakson) Gummer from Vol. I and II of the Traill County History books, and also from their great granddaughter, Cheryll (Hallada) Moen. From page 70 of Vol. I of the Traill County History book, we know that Harry Gummer was born in 1849 in England and came to America in 1871. In 1872, Harry staked a land claim along the Goose River in section 5 in what became Mayville Township (see 1892 map; location of residence noted as a black square). On 17 November 1881, Harry Gummer married Mathilda Aslakson, who came with her family from Wisconsin in 1879. Harry and Mathilda had five children, Alfred, George, Lura, Mildred and Ella. We know from page 69 of Vol. I of the Traill County History book (below), that their son George was born on 16 September 1885. On 12 October 1912, George Gummer married Frances Beson. From page 79, we know they had six children, Doris, Georgene, Harris, Robert and Barbara. Of these six children, only Georgene remained in Mayville. From page 84 in Vol. II of the Traill County History books (below), we know that their daughter Georgene married William E. Hallada of Grand Forks in June 1949. William was employed by the Great Northern Railway in Grand Forks, and after an accident, they made their home in Mayville. William and Georgene had two childre, son Bryon and daughter Cheryll Hallada. We know from page 85 of Vol. II of the Traill County History books (below) that Bryon Hallada was born on 29 August 1950 in Mayville. On 23 June 1973 Bryon Hallada married Marie Johnson of Rolla, ND. They lived in Neche, ND, and then moved to Mayville. Also from page 85, we know that Cheryll Hallada was born on 24 June 1953 in Mayville. On 27 July 1975, Cheryll Hallada married Tom Moen and they reside in Mayville.
