Description

This book titled "Manual for the State of North Dakota 1930" uses data compiled up to 1929 and 1930 to inform citizens of North Dakota on its history, governing organizations, and demographics. This book was issued by ND Secretary of State, Robert Byrne, and was edited by ND Deputy Secretary of State, Charles Liessman. Of considerable interest in this book are tables of census population numbers by county and early unorganized territories beginning in 1861 to 1925. For example, the first census for Traill County was in 1880 and recorded 4,123 residents. By 1925, Traill County had a population of 12,295, after a peak population of 13,107 in 1900. This book originally belonged to Alva Wright of Cummings, ND, and was donated to the Traill County Historical Society by Alva's son, Merle Knodle. Alva Wright was a sister to the father of TCHS Board President John Wright.
