Dear Folks,
Laura says she must close but I guess it is for lack of
ideas-more than anything else and wants me to write something
although there is a general dearth of ideas among us all-
I have not been as well as usual for a few days-Lucius
tried to get a girl but they are scarcely obtainable. I have heard
there will be general training + encampment this week upon Quimby
hill, I suppose will be a great time for great [?] + small.
The old friends are getting neighborly as it happened last weekend
Perhaps Laura will stay until next week if it is so that
Lucius can go + take her to the wedding [?] [?]
We shall probably have some one
before that time to help me that if you want Laura [?]
you must send for her post-haste
I would like to have her stay if you had help but if you
do not get any one to help you certainly cannot stand it
much longer. I should like to have you all come down as soon
as you can.

Sunday Afternoon
Dear Friends at home
I have nothing in particular
to write but feeling rather lonely and hardly
knowing what to do with myself. I thought I
would write home. As it is quite muddy, I did
not go to meeting today and Sunday always
seemed the longest day in the week when I do
not go to meeting.
Mrs. Abell died last week
Wednesday and was buried Thursday. They thought
that she could get well until a short time before
she died. I did not attend the funeral, for it rained
very hard. There were a great many mourners
and a great many attended the funeral considering
the weather.
Mrs Evaltes King dined with
us the day of the funeral, and Mrs. Hapgood
visited us in the afternoon. And the next day
Aunt Mary spent the afternoon with us. Indeed
we had company about evry day last week.
Mr Fuller went to Brookfield and tried to get a
girl but did not succeed. He is going
again this week and if he succeeds in getting one
I will come home Saturday, but when I appoint a
time to go home I am sure not to go- So I need
not expect to go Saturday.
Also Mrs De Hasmon says that
she is surely going to Newton this fall + make a
visit. She said that she meant to have you before
now. Mary is anxious to have you come down
I hope you will soon. Mrs King + Mrs. Hapgood
and the rest of the friends want her to come down, to visit them.
I went to a call on the Bride
and swung the bell as long as I could afford-and came
away. Cousin Mary is coming home in about two
weeks and one of her cousins is going to accompany
her and they are giving a great party for her.
Aunt Mary says that she wishes that she could
go away and let them wait upon themselves.
She says that she has wished that she could be sick
a year so that the girls would have to work.
I must close for it is suppertime. Yours Sincerely,
Laura A. Stevens
Mr. Applegate is to be married this week so he says
I will give three cheers when I hear that is is so.
Mrs Thales is going to be married to a man by the
name of Cotes. Havannah Fuller is going to be
married next week Wednesday.
