"Niles middleweight Rusty Rosenberger added another victory to his unbeaten record when he scored a unanimous decision over Jose Rivera of Puerto Rico before a sellout crowd of 7,000 at the Ice World here Tuesday night.
The fight was the first in three months for Rosenberger (159), who dropped Rivera (163) twice in the first round and seemed on the verge of a knockout several times. But Rivera, a veteran of more than 50 fights, managed to force Rosenberger to go the full six rounds.
Rivera was a last-minute replacement for Ray Bryant, who was slated to right Rosenberger in an eight-rounder but who reportedly was cut during training.
Bob Miketa, Rosenberger's trainer, said negotiations are now underway to pair the middleweight against Reggie Jones for the New Jersey middleweight championship. The fight is tentatively scheduled for April 17."
