(in part)
Dear Sir
It is a long time since I had the pleasure of hearing
from you. What has become of the action I [?] commenced
vs. Pratt. I have nothing since I was informed one had been [?].
How has the Business progressed. Has Gen'l Campbell said any
thing about paying his notes that are due. Mr. Henderson of this
place holds a note about $120 against Mr. Edmund Hampton
who is said to live in or nigh the Town of Eldridge. Will you
find whether he lives there or not. Mr. Noah Hill of Eldridge
can inform where he is. Please write me when you have
informed yourself. I saw a gentleman at my house few days
since who informed me one Charles Bratt is on my tract
No. 3 in Charleston, has been cutting timber for a barn for a
man whose land he is going to remove in the Spring. I
wish if this is the case you would, if he is able, make him
pay damages for his pass. Since writing the forgoing I
have rec'd a letter from a friend in New Haven sending me
a copy of a publication in the Ohio paper bring suit
brought by Gen. Perkins against me as Executor to my
Father's will. His Claim, I suppose, is for I know not
what, neither have I been able to get any acct. from him.
You will please to send me his acct. and when you get
it you will be able to advise me how to proceed.
You will please to let me time be lost in forwarding the
acct. When I saw him last Summer he declined rendering
any acct. Since this suit is brought to [?] [?] me to
expense I presume is all owing to my discharging
him from my agency. His accts have been render'd
yearly of what he has sold & rec'd pay for he has charged
commission on, he never sold any lands except to [Campbell?]
& Eddy. My father told me two years before his death
that Gen'l Perkins had no claims against him except
Commission on this /4 Township when the monies were
collected and remitted. He has been making up an
account I presume out of his malice against me,
but you will please to take such Steps in the
Suit has not to give him any undue advantage
and write me soon as possible. I will write
you again soon.
Your Ob. Serv.
