"About 40 of the 65 candidates that seek berths on the Harding High School varsity and reserve football teams are shown above.
Returning veterans and members of the 1944 grid squad, meanwhile, went thru their paces for the third day at the Fairgrounds Wednesday evening. Another casualty was recorded when Len Corbin, flashy All-Ohio left end, suffered a small cut over his left eye when he collided with Abe Williams while practicing pass defense. Jack Rogers, center candidate who was injured Monday, worked out but was relieved during scrimmage.
Abe Williams and Ted Lots worked on extra-point kicking while Williams and Bill Blakely brushed up on kickoffs. Louis Reed worked out receiving punts, indicating Couch Heinie Beck may be considering using the 132-pound backfield candidate in the safety slot this fall. Williams, George Pulca, Reed and Corbin alternated at halfback during the scrimmage. Team Captain Bob Busby held down quarterback post and Ted Lots worked out at fullback."
