Letter from Joseph Futey to his sister Mary Ann Futey
"Oct. 7, 1943
USS Pensacola
Dear Sister Mary:
Just a few lines to let you know that
I received your letter and was glad to hear from
you, I am feeling fine and i hope that you
are the same.
Sure glad to hear that you won so much
for a little suggestion. Instead of just sending
me your picture how about sending the whole
cablegram. I would like to read up on the
things happening back there.
Helen Brown always wanted to meet
you but I never got around to it. I was
afraid to walk over there with her and so
was she because Edie might have got mad.
She is a good worker alright and is a nice
person talk to until she gets mad.
Tell her if she didn't have such a good job
her husband probably wouldn't be in the
army. Ha! Ha!
I like the kind of letters you write
because there full of news and not like
Agnes' letters. She sure is mad about me
and Margaret Gayan but maybe you are
also. A lot of the things I said were as a
joke especially about getting married and that
she might be your sister in-law. I have
no idea of getting married then the man in the
moon. When I get around 22 or 3 I'll think of
it then but not now.
That guy I told you about has a girl-
fried so I don't think you would like to
write too him but if you do I can arrange it.
The guy that wrote to Agnes hasn't got a
girlfriend and he really is a nice guy. I
showed him her picture and he said sh
was good looking. I am going up for fireman
second this month which is equal to corporal.
Well, Mary I'll have too be signing off
now for its time to hit the sack. May
God Bless you and good luck.
Your Brother
Joe
