Scope and Content

Letter from Joseph Futey to his sister Mary Ann Futey. "July 21, 1944 U.S.S. Pensacola Hi Mary: White glancing through my locker to day I ran across a letter from you which hasn't been answered. Who am I kidding? The reason that I didn't answer sooner was that when I received your letter things were happening so fast that I never did get around to it. I hope that you will forgive me this time because I'm sure that it won't happen again. Well Sis, how you all? Me? Well everything is just wonderful. Now that all of the foremalaties are completed I shall endevor to proceed with this letter. According to my home front corresponce, I understand that Margaret Gayan(?) has met a sugar dady to whom she is now married and also that her sister Helen has become the blushing bride of a sea dog who is stationed on dry land. My, my, at that rate who will be left for me too rest my eyes upon from which I can pick my bride from? By the looks of things the Old Lady wants too get them married off before us young guys come home. Now don't you go rubbing it in because through my various correspondence I have choosen two of the sweetest girls this side of heaven. Only time will tell what the out come shall be but this marriage problem that people are going into with there eyes closed is not for me. No steps toward that goal will be made on my part until this whole world is at peace once more. Say speaking of marriage, you haven't made any steps toward it have you? Now what in the world even got me started on that topic? Enough of that now I shall proceed with the brighter topics of single life. No, as yet I haven't received the cablegram from the Packard but I can't say as I blame them because after all I did quit there. So I can't expect them to bother with a cast off. Thanks for trying anyway Sis. Anyway the ones that I was interested in are the personal that I work with and according to the ones that I received from home there are a lot of new faces in them that I don't know."
