Letter from Joseph Futey to his sister Mary Ann Futey.
"Jan, 17, 1944
U.S.S. Pensacola
Dear Sister Mary
Just a few lines to let you
know that I received your letter
and was happy to hear from
you. I am feeling fine and I hope
that you are the same.
I am not angry at you for not
writing more oftener to me Mary
because I know if I were back
there I wouldn't spend very much
time writing letters either. Its
a surprise when I get a letter from
you and I think its more fun.
Rumpler sure was using his head
when he said that he wanted a quart
for Christmas because made his
wife wouldn't leave him buy any. Ha! Ha!
Is Max's still walking around that
3/5 with a girlfriend yet. You tell
him that I'll change places with
him anytime of the day. I sure
would like to rest my eyes on some
pretty girl. Ha! Ha!
Yes, I could tell you about the
landing on Guadacanal but the
scissor happy gentleman in the log
room would cut it out.
You can tell Helen Brown if I
were in her husbands place I wouldn't
enlist in the Army. What in the Heck
is wrong with the Navy? I guess
this is a mans outfit and they only
want men (Patting myself on the back)
Serious though, you sure have to put
your hand out to a guy like Helen
Browns husband who gives up a thing
that he didn't have to. Thats a lot
more then a great number of the other
guys would do.
You can tell Blondina that its too
bad that I'm not a little older because
I sure would have fallen for her. It's
too bad that she doesn't have a kid
sister. Tell her that I said hello!
Sorry Mary but I'm still looking for
a sailor for you. No luck yet.
I can't think of any questions to
ask so I'd better close.
Your Brother
Joe
