Scope and Content

Letter from Joseph Futey to his sister Mary Ann Futey " January 27, 1945 U.S.S. Pensacola Dear Sister Mary: I guess that I've wanted long enough to answer your letter so since I'm in the mood for writing to night I decided to put it to some use. This letter was started about a half hour ago but as usuall there is some sort of argument arises and it usually detains my letter writing for awhile Now that everything is quite again I'll see what I can do in the way of writing a letter. Just as long as your intentions of writing to me is sincere, I'll forgive you for not writing as often as you think you should. I can't say as I blame you for not wanting to write Mary because if I were back there I would feel exactly the same.Tthere were times when back there that the only way I would get a letter written was to tie myself to the table and wouldn't get up until it was written. Now with time on my hands it is the only thing that a person can do but even now there are times when I would much rather sleep then write. No, I haven't heard anything about Charlie and Josephine. As a matter of fact I haven't heard from Charlie for over 2 month so maybe if I get a letter from him he'll tell me about it. it isn't too much of a surprise to me because I can't blame her. They should have got married a long time ago and I think that she stayed true to him long enough. That's the trouble with having a steady girl when you can't stay near her. then again a person never can tell what life holds in store for him. Say, before I want to thank you for the war bond that you bought for me. I appreciate it very much Sis. Well gal, I guess its time for me to go to bed so I guess I'll be signing off for now. Don't take no wooden nickels. Your Brother Joe Joseph James Futey"
