Scope and Content

Letter from Anna Babcock to Seth Hayes "Mercer Pennsylvania March 1840 Sir You will recollect that some six or eight years ago I left an account with you to collect for teaching in your district. I have done very well without for these many years but as I do not feel able to teach any more I presume Mr. Sutliff or the district can better afford to pay me than I can to loose it. I have always been very punctual paying my debts and very lenient to those who have owed me but I fear I cannot be the one nor the other any longer as I need all I have ever earned to enable me to do it. i hope you will be so good as to collect it for me and perhaps send it by mail to Mercer as i intend still to reside here. I suppose the amount of what is now due is about twelve dollars Anna Zabrosk"
