"East Junior High School coach George Johnson (left) checks the weight of Hawthorne Turner (center) after the Warren boxer was defeated in the finals of the open heavyweight division the Youngstown Golden Gloves Tournament Tuesday night. Turner, who scaled 182 pounds, was defeated by Roger Wolfe whose 20-pound weight advantage wore down the local amateur mitten. Joe Safford (right) won the 135-pound novice division title to give Warren its only tournament title. Johnson trained the glovers who are graduates of an inter-class boxing tournament staged at East Junior each year."
