Dear Jean,
Hello, honey, how the best girl I ever could know. I love
you darling. well, honey, the first day of another week and I
highly piss of again. This place and this outfit I am in is
crazy. I guess we are coming home someday and yet these
great leaders of ours, stuck cleaning "ducks" again. "Ducks as you
should know are anpl. Tr. Clean, & paint them when we
left Guam. Now we are cleaning again. I guess you know
it getting very (tiredsome). Guard duty to top it off. Kept
us pretty busy. We will probably sink these ducks
when we are all done. That the way the marine core
works. Well, as I said in my last letter. I tell you
about China if I can and I quit the gripe session.
This Tsingtao is really a fairly nice place.
It has (ever) kind of people you want, Russian, Japanese,
Chinese, and so on. It has a large pop. &1,000,000 I
would judge. It has it old orient place and very
modern place too. Big tobacco outfit, in fact the
government made them move (there) office out of
one large buiding, and we have for a enlisted
men club, not a bad place either, lay 450 men
off, just for us. The prces here have made
a real jump. A meal now cost. .50 instead
of .36 as I tol you before. They are really
taking (everthing) they can get from us, can't
blame them either. Probably the most they
ever made. It very interesting the different place they
have. The restaurant are nice, but "boy" the peddlers they
drive a man nuts. Sell you a baby for dollar, but
who wants a baby. "Ha Ha". No kidding, honey, it something
to see, but it is not worth it. All us guys wants is the good
old U.S.A.. We did our part, and now we are ready to
come, but someone (overhere) don't see it that way. It
very hard, honey, to tell you have the place I be able
to tell you more when I get home.
By the way, honey, on the present I got
you all, I don't really know if I brought Jimmy a
gift that is a suitable present. It the bestI could
do. I hope it the right size if it isn't, do the best
you can with it. The present is a small rube, I call
it, but you will see it when I conclude my box. I
hope I do hurt anyone feeling, not buying (everbody)
a present but it the best I can do on the wages
I drew. I just a private pay so I believe you
all understand.
Jean, I really get awful lonely for you
and the boy. And your letter, honey, for almost two
years I receive a letter from you (everday) even
if some of them was in a bunch. Darling, you
made yourself a husband. I don't know if
you know it or not, I love, darling, and never
in my life, Jean did I really know how nice
you were. You are a grand a American woman,
Jean, a great model for other people to live
after. I will be home soon darling, and you help me
a great deal. In one of your letters Jim mention
to you. I would do a lot for you both. It seem strange
for me to have a son talking that way. The last time
I dee him he just start to talk. I hope to (satisfut)
him, Jean I really do.
Honey, I really feel guilty not writing the rest
of family. I hope they realize my letter writing is (lad)
just to you. I want them all to know in my heart
my feeling are very great for them, not just because
I don't write. I still think of them daily. The Nelson
have help me out plenty. Our family work together
in this war and I am very proud of them.
Well, honey, I am enclosing a few more
pictures of myself. Will get some large one tomorrow
and send them, (to). These picutures aren't very plain
just like the one I mail yesterday. I close now,
Jean, and love you most dearly. I wish I was
home, but it won't be long. It a funny thing
about time. A man look ahead and it seems like it
never will roll around. But yet it does come so, honey
it will come soon. I hope, I love my little
family and hope and pray. I see you soon.
Love
Russ
