Letter to 'son' from Horace Stevens, dated Newton Falls April 7, 1858.
"Newton Falls April 7th 1858
Dear Son
Enclosed I send you for
S L Freeman the amount of his judgement
against the Hewits as follows judgement $65.51
Int 8 months 2.62 to bal $68.13 mines that amount
one stamp, I think the claim was sent through
Mr Stull, please hand it to one of them and take
receipt so that I can close the Docket which I
suppose will soon pop out of my hands on or
about the first of May
About three years ago I signed a bond as
I then supposed for costs for at Hardman, in
the case of Desse vs Hardman with several
others which we have heard has gone against
Hardman and we are not informed of the
amount for which we are bound I am
fearful that Hardman will make no effort
to pay it and I wish you would see to it
and if possible save me or all of us from loss
I think the parties would be willing to give ...
something hansom in the way of a fee if you know
of any way to help them out of the scraps
I am not much Disappointed in being beten ot
the Election and feel satisfied from the fact they
secured the votes generally of the conservative ...
and of most of the best man in community but now ...
and bad whisky out numbered me a few votes
we are all wel land would be kindly
remembered to the family
As ever yours
