Esteemed friend
John S Edwards
Thy letter came this day to
hand–when we are driven from home by the
fears of yellow fever–Abundance of things to
be attended to has prevented the completing of
Jonathan Fowlers papers–tho several times taken
in hand–but rest assured that as soon as we
return to Town immediate attention shall
be paid to complete the letter of License
so that we request him & thyself to [???}
what can be done to promote the buseness
against the papers come to hand–the
dates to be fixed as in that Paper in
thy possession. Please to use thy endea-
vours to encourage Jonathan to hold fast his
integrity.
Our city is deserted by
thousands of its inhabitants–I understand
that Goodrich of New Haven /Collector/ is dead
with the fever–several persons have died
in Connect–that frequented our city.
We shall cheerfully pay the
postage of a letter in answer to this
informing of whether its satisfactory & that
we may be encouraged to believe the
debts will be secured [& Oblige]Thy Friend
