Scope and Content

Letter addressed to Amelia Linsley from A. C. Linsley "The Beauties of Nature Study of Nature. The study of Nature is the most grand and sublime in which an can engage. It surfaces in the grandeur of its lessons, and sublimity of its teachings. It's volume is full of instruction, and wisdom is inscribed in glowing characters on every Image while every line shows power and magnificence. The wisdom of the Creator is heard from every laughing cliff and jutting rock; it speaks in the whirlwind storm and in the balmy gale - or the gentle zephyr; The booming thunder proclaims it through the sky and echoes it along the heavens; the vivid lightening paints it in fearful characters on blackened clouds; and writes it with startling emphasis on the surrounding gloom. Look where you will over the face of the mighty earth, and you will hear its beauty and sublimity heralded forth from every opening gulf, and lofty peak; from every flaming volcano, and foaming cataract: it is seen in the blackened clouds and angry storm: it is proclaimed from the heaving billows of the mighty ocean to the tiny rivulet and sparkling water fall; from the lofty mountain to the rolling prairies Beautiful fields and magnificent forest; all utter forth, as with one voice the beauty and magnificence of Nature, A C Linsley Gustavus Ohio"
