The corner of Main and Market where Second National Bank is now located was at one time the site of early hotels, one proprietor being Horace Rawdon, father of the artists Richard Rawdon. In 1836, this location was purchased by Henry W. and Charles Smith, whom built a two story structure. After it burned, a three story building was erected and the second story with outside staircase was the office site of Adams Insurance Agency, Whittlesey Adams Agent.
