Letter to Joe and Lowell from Arthur Mizner

Hello Joe and Lowell
Just a couple of lines to say. I
received the box of new shirts OK and think
they are swell, many thanks.
have been extra busy with the Maple Syrup
season since Feb 24 and still working at it
but think the season is about finish.
have made quite a lot. near 100 gal
and ready sale @ 3.50 per gal
and moste impossible to get hired help so I have
been on continous time for 7 weeks
with one hired hand. Ralph Miller @ 5.00
per day which is a lot of money for sugar making
weather has been more like winter than
spring last to weeks. snow on the ground at
this writing and more falling.
I bought a used ½ ton pick up chevrolet
truck in Jan which helped out a lot in the sap
hauling. quite good condition with pre war
tires A-1 and have a Farm licence and a
300 gal allotment of gas for one year.
guess won’t have any trouble using the gas
as some days it is a 36 mile drive to
make the trips.
been having Gun Shoots every two weeks
since Nov last year with a fair crowd.
have 3500 tomatoe plants 4” to 6”
high in the Fowler Green house. and
if this weather dont break pretty soon for a
warmer time. going to have a lot of to large
and spindly plants
haven;t bought any [?] yet but
expect to soon, to handle the garden work
as hired help is [?] and think I can
do quite a lot of work my self. [?] a horse orto
sometimes the way I feel I think I
will not try to do any Garden work the
way this season looks and conditions
you have to work and sell under.
last Valentine day I bought myself
a $1000. G Bond for a Valentine. the kind you
pay the full amt for and it pays 2 ½ % interest
12.50 per year and maturity at 12 years Face Value
that is the second one I have bought and have collected one year interest to date.
guess had better close about
sighning off time 10 pm.
the magazines are arriving on time
better figure on coming out this
summer as I layed away a Maple Syrup
present for you.
