Notes found in front of Ledger 2021.1.137, of the Bell Harmon Post no. 36 GAR.
"Dear Miss Hauser-
I am sending you a
copy of GAR. Nat. Gen. Orders which
were sent me in response to
my letter to Dept. Headquarters
asking permission to turn over
the Post 36 charter and records
to W.R.C. The Dept. Secretary
previously had asked me to
hold them until instructions
came from National.
This correspondence was in
1941 and I have let the time
slip past.
Last June in Akron at
D.U.V. Dept. Convention I talked
with the National Secretary.
She too said that the
books cannot be given to
any other organization
She asked me to place
them according to Gen. Orders,
or if not accepted by library
or Historical Society, to destroy
them.
I do not suscribe to that,
but it is true that the world
moves on, and no one else
will venerate them as we do.
I'd be very happy if the
Historical Society would accept
them and find a place on
the wall for the charter.
Yours sincerely,
Alice M. Baldwin
P.S.
As I look over my share of the
records I could wish I had been
less heavy on the pen.
