Dear Brother,
As it seems
to be my turn to write
this week, and there is
no getting out of it,
I’ll have to crack
ahead and jumble
down a lot of stuff.
I will begin by stating
that we are all well
as usual. Which
is not the case with
every one around here.
As the Grip is begin-
ning to start again.
Lane’s folks are all
sick. So we have been
except Helen.
They are commencing
to get the social
fever around here
again. C.E. Society
gave one at Lucian’s
last night. And the
M.E. give a oyster supper
Friday night.
Alex was up this evening
to get some sage to flavor
sausage of a hog which
Old Fred thought would
dress 200 lbs.
The neighbors say
that the Hayes family
take solid comfort
riding in the Doc’s portland
Having to do the chores
since Sunday night.
But did not go down tonight.
As the men folks were better
so they could tend to them.
Father went over to
Hamiltons’ to mill
one day last week
and took dinner with
Mrs. Frye. Which resulted
in her giving him a bottle
of cider. Which seemed
to have rather of a
bad effect on him as
his team ran away, and
he found them down
standing in the yard
where Alex did live.
He came out pretty
lucky as they did
not happen to injure
anything.
There has been another
gang surveying on the
new railroad route.
Which makes it look
as if they intended
to build a road
somewhere.
How was the tempera-
ture in Hiram this
morning?
Here we think it has
been about as cold a
day as we have had
this year. With the
prospects of its being
colder tonight.
Monday morning it
was so warm that
we went at it and
washed part of
our sap buckets.
But have not seen
much sap yet.
Mother says to tell
you that for some
reason we did not
get your letter till
yesterday.
Gates has hired a
clerk. His name is
Fobes from Cherry Valley.
He is a nephew of
Lewis Pelton.
Well, guess I have
written all I know.
So-Amen
