Letter from Ruth Partridge to Mabel Baker Smallwood, 8-3-1953
"Miss Ruth Partridge
1529 East Market
Warren, Ohio
8-3-53
Dear Mabel,
I have looked all over, and
I cant find any proof about the
National Guard Unit. I know it
was one of the four units in the
State of Ohio, including men from
Trumbull and Mahoning counties,
but I do not know if more were
included or not. None of the family
know anything about it.
We finally got to see Aunt
Nell's picture. It is done on canvas
and is very large and framed.
I do not think it could be mailed
even if she wanted to send it.
It is a much later picture of
grandfather. He wears the
National Guard uniform which looks
just like the Civil War Uniform.
He wears no hat. It was dated
on the back 1879. Wayne Ohl has
been here, and he says that he
will try to take a picture of
the portrait for us. If it turns
out all right, I'll send you the
result. I guess she was right
when she insisted she had no
picture to mail, for this one is
almost as wide as a door and
has a very heavy frame. The
canvas could not be removed
from the frame except by an
expert.
Enclosed is another check.
We seem to be at a stand still
now. I hope we shall have better
results at the reunion.
I hope this finds you a lot better.
Love,
Ruth"Acquisition
