Description

This Dresden Plate pattern quilt was presented to the Rev. William Leroy Burner as an expression of gratitude for his ministry when he left the Christian Church in Wellsville, New York. Mr. Burner was pastor of the congregation from 1932 to 1942. In retirement, Mr. Burner returned to Lordstown, where he lived until his passing. His funeral was held at the Second Christian Church. The quilt was donated to their congregation in February of 2001 by Sara Kay Burner Chandler, Mr. Burner's daughter. She felt it should become a part of their historical archives. There are twelves circles, or plates, on the quilt, each of which has 24 names on it, for a total of 288 names. Many of these people were related to current members of the Second Christian Church.
