How Elisha Whittlesey
is engaged in collecting materials for
a history of the Settlement of the Western

thinks) gave the order for Captain Joshua
Cotten to go to the Peninsula at Sandusky.
Also whether Col. Hayes left any military pap
ers, to which he ( Mr. W) can have a access.
Also who was his Adjutant or Adjutants.
If it is in your power to give any info
rmation upon these subjects, if you will
inform me, or write directly to We~Whi
ttlesey, you will do the public a service,
confer a favor upon We~ Whittlesey and
myself.
Respectfully yours
