South Street in downtown Warren, undated.
Most likely taken in the late 1940s. Westbound Erie RR. passenger train passing the Warren station and crossing the Mahoning River bridge along South St. at Warren, Oh. Train appears to be pulled by a Pittsburgh & Lake Erie RR. engine, which would indicate that this was one of the joint P&LE/Erie RR Pittsburgh to Cleveland trains. These trains were called the Steel Kings. Two were westbound and two were eastbound. There was the Morning Steel King and the Afternoon Steel King. The locomotives ran through in both directions. P&LE engines ran all the way through to Cleveland without change, and Erie engines ran all the way through to Pittsburgh without change. The crews changed at Youngstown.
