Description

This letter, dated March 14th, 1865, was written by Edwin C. Woodworth, a soldier in the 125th Regiment, to his mother, Abigail H. Woodworth, residing in West Williamsfield, Ashtabula County, Ohio. In the letter, Edwin informs his mother that he is well and mentions their impending move from their current camp near Huntsville, Alabama, possibly to Knoxville and then Richmond. He shares that their regiment has presented their old flag to General Emerson Opdyke, noting that 187 men were killed under that flag, which was never dishonored. Edwin encloses a piece of this flag for his mother to keep as a memento, listing the battles it was in and indicating which ones he participated in. He expresses his hope to return home safely and sends his respects to all.
