Construction Relief Dam

Description

A black and white photo of Relief Dam construction being done by Union Construction Company, Vallecito, Ca. Note the bluff of rocks on which a derrick is placed. This large bluff and yardage was incorporated in the dam which was the reason for curving the face of the dam down stream, which is against engineering principles, however in this case it seemed advisable on account of the great amount of yardage and two side wall connection. Note: Relief Dam is a rockfill dam on Summit Creek, a tributary of the Middle Fork Stanislaus River, in Tuolumne County, California. The dam is part of the Spring Gap-Stanislaus Hydroelectric Project, and is owned and operated by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). Type: Paper
