Description

A black and white photographic print of Eliza Davis. She is posing for an outdoor photo, wearing spectacle glasses, a black shawl, gloves and a light color cap . To her right-hand side appears to be a brush pile and behind her looks like a shingled rooftop. On the reverse side is a stamp that reads, "GABRIEL MOULIN STUDIOS AUG 2 1939 153 KEARNY ST. S.F., CALIF." Type: Paper [May-July, 2025]: Amy Cohen from Exhibit Envoy has matched this "Unknown Person" photograph to a negative from the California State Library, file number: CSL_negGL2569_ElizaDavis -- which is a larger photograph and that this image was probably taken at the same time. Along the top-border of that negative, handwritten in cursive reads, "Old Aunt Eliza Davis - negro. nearly 100 years old when she died in Sonora. This is her red cabin at Sonora."
