TP21696Description
Black and white photo of the Tuolumne City Depot. This photo shows the passenger or office end of the station. There are three windows in the side of the building facing us. There is a door on both sides of the windows. There is a sign above the three windows proclaiming this location to be Tuolumne, elevation 2563 feet. The sign is quite dirty and hard to read entirely. A floodlight has been installed at the corner up in the eave. The bare wire runs down the corner to a large old style hand throw switch box. (6"wx10"hx4"d). From there the wire runs down the corner and into the concrete walk I think. In TP18085 the bare wire has been installed into conduit from the ground up to the switch box. Above there is still bare wire. One step at a time I guess. At the base of the second door a ramp starts ascending up a few feet to an elevation suitable for loading and unloading railroad cars. There are two man sized doors along the platform. The platform looks to be 50 or 60 feet long and is rather roughly constructed. I can't see the far end of the station but there does appear to be an area where larger sized parcels and/or heavier loads can be handled. There is a definite roofed area without walls that would suggest that maybe there are large warehouse doors. A concrete wall about four feet high behind the railroad station indicates that the next street is four or five feet higher than the railroad station. A gated fence atop that wall keeps stray cars, cats, dogs and children off the railroad property.
Beyond the end of the platform can be seen part of a car. I can tell its a convertable and it looks like a two seater. I suspect it's hot rod along the lines of a mid thirties Ford chassis with most any kind of engine.
