Map showing timber holdings and railroad right-of-way in vicinity of Dodge Ridge Some of the map ares have been colored one of two colors. The ochre or yellow blocks are probably company lands they are intending to log. Some of these are still Sierra Pacific Lands per a 1990 USFS Stanislaus National Forest map. (Or at least private lands). The green blocks are Forest Service lands on the 1990 map and I think they were so in the era of this map. I think they were denoting a Timber Sale that the West Side Lumber Co. had bought from the governmernt. That would explain the wandering blob shape of the cutting area. The map shows abandoned trackage running south to north in section 33 (T3N R17E), and then two abandoned spurs a little over a mile each along Dodge Ridge. A third goes a short distance up Wrights Creek and then up the ridge between Wrights Creek and Lilly Creek. A truck road is shown running up Dodge Ridge and another up Lilly Creek. Presumably the Company was planning to truck log this area, since there is no active trackage in the area. This would mean this area was probably logged in the 1950's. Kreig indicates the first truck logging started in 1943 near Camp 44 (see Last of the Three Foot Loggers, Allan Krieg, page 64). Krieg also indictes the Company logged the Dodge Meadow Sale in 1961. That area is located near the headwaters of Trout Creek. While most if not all of the camps were no longer in use they are portrayed on the map.
