Description

The base map was dated Jan 1, 1926. There is however considerable 1930 data on the map dated at Oct 1, 1930. For that reason I dated the map at 1930. The legend displays a colorcoding system showing cutover and non-cutover lands, and which of those are company lands. As of Oct 1 1930 The map shows rail already in place, proposed spurs, and recent rail surveys, the mainline is still labeled as the Hetch Hetchy & Yosemite Valleys Railroad. It shows railroad constructed in 1930. This would be the main part of the Skunk Creek spur and mainline track between mile post 56 and mile post 58. (Approximate,) There is also a notation on the Niagara spur that steel was removed 1 3/4. Don't know what the 1 3/4 means. But apparently some steel (rail) was removed. The mainline starts 40.5 miles from Tuolumne. Camp 27 is near there. Camp 30 is in section 9, the Looney Creek spur begins near there. Reynold's spur leaves the mainline in Bourland Creek. The Ridge spur splits off where the mainline turns east into Lost Creek. Niagara spur leaves the mainline just before Niagara Creek, at mile post 49 The Flimming spur leaves the mainline about a mile later near mile post 50. The then current railend was at mile post 58 which is where the Jawbone spur was to diverge from the mainline. Camp 38 was marked as being near mile post 53 in Bear Creek drainage. Camp 33 was located Lost Creek near where Reynolds spur crossed the stream. The grading camp was in the same drainage but further downstream where the mainline crossed Lost Creek.
