Description

This map shows in great detail where all buildings were located as well as the lumber stacks, warehouses, lumber sheds, sawmill, box factory etc. At the Western edge I found residences amid drying yards and Sierra railroad tracks. At the North end is found the road to Sonora. The largest drying yard seems to be the one adjacent to the Sonora road. It is called appropriately, Sonora. At the south end of the facilities is the box factory. It has its own lumber yard and sheds. On the second piece of the map is wye for the Sierra railroad and some lumber stacks in the Dubuque yard. The . There are also several hundred lots laid out on a grid of streets. Dupont yard is found to the south between the Sierra railroad and Turnback Creek. Most lots are long and narrow with some wider than others. But they look like the cliche "shotgun" house lots. The W R Pickering office is on this segment. There are a number of sheds at various locations. I found ten of them with the last two at the box factory. The sawmill is located near the center and is surrounded by a number of other buildings such as: electric plant, boiler room, machine shop, sorting table, blacksmith shop and roundhouse. Everything looks well drawn to scale (!" = 100'). Some items are labeled upside down however Scale: 1 inch = 100 feet Location: Carters California Township/Range/Section: T1N R16E Sec 5 &8
