Copy of a Commendation from the Headquarters 1378th AAF Base Unit and signed by E.F. Gillespie, Commanding Officer of the USCG Station in City Island, New York. The commendation states, "This headquarters wishes to commend the crew of Coast Guard Ship 64311 for the prompt and tireless services they rendered the Aray in the salvage of the B-29 aircraft that crashed in Rikers Island Channel on February 15th. "All personnel stood by during the entire operation, and regardless of loss of sleep and cold weather, cheerfully assisted the Army in the salvage operation. Commendation is also made for the crew of the Coast Guard Crash Boat of your station, which provided taxi service between the Marine Terminal at LaGuardia Field and the scene of operation, without which considerable delay would have been caused in the salvage operation.
